To warm up the winter chill, the year’s first installment of our bimonthly series of intimate listening sessions honors the comforting embrace of friendship, with songs that strengthen platonic bonds, celebrate BFFs and memorialize long-lost pals. More fraught but no less musically rewarding scenarios find frenemies scorned with withering disses and lovelorn companions relegated to the dreaded “friend zone.” Featured artists include Björk, Bruce Springsteen, Donny Hathaway, LCD Soundsystem and the bosom-buddy duo of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.
