The last of the independents and still the talk of the town more than 45 years into their creative journey, the Pretenders return to Tulsa for this one-night-only concert co-presented by the Bob Dylan Center and Cain’s Ballroom. From their classic self-titled 1978 debut through last year’s characteristically fierce and provocative “Relentless,” the band flaunts a stellar back catalogue of undisputed gems such as “Brass in Pocket,” “Middle of the Road,” “Night in My Veins” and “2000 Miles.” As always, the band will be led by the truly legendary Chrissie Hynde, long one of rock ‘n’ roll’s most compelling and accomplished singer-songwriter-performers and a Dylan devotee whose 2021 album “Standing in the Doorway” is a stunning collection of covers including “Sweetheart Like You” and “Every Grain of Sand.” “For me, a lot of this is a meditation,” says Hynde of Dylan’s music. “You’re sort of transported by it.” The Pretenders in concert have that same effect, as this night of ferocious rave-ups and gorgeous ballads will prove once again.”
With deepest gratitude to the Hardesty Family Foundation for their generous support of this event.
