The Bob Dylan Center is pleased to announce an evening of wide-ranging reflection on the role of the artist in society with Lewis Hyde, esteemed member of the center’s inaugural Curatorial Voices team. Hyde is a writer and cultural critic with a particular interest in the public life of the imagination and in the theory that the commerce of creative spirit belongs to an economy of gift exchange. A MacArthur Fellow and former director of undergraduate creative writing at Harvard University, Hyde’s landmark book The Gift serves as the foundation for the Bob Dylan Center’s celebration of artistic creativity as explored in rotating exhibitions in the Parker Brothers Gallery and in the beautiful Shaker artwork that adorns the center’s staircase landing.

Copies of “The Gift” will be available for sale and signing.
