To celebrate the opening of “They Gave The Walls A Talking: The Extraordinary Story of The Pogues and Shane MacGowan,” the Bob Dylan Center presents a one-time screening of the acclaimed 2020 documentary, “Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan,” with MacGowan’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke appearing to introduce the film and answer audience questions.
Produced by MacGowan’s longtime friend Johnny Depp and directed by Julien Temple, well-known for similarly innovative films such as “The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle” and “Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten,” this rollicking chronicle of the band and its irrepressible leader — seen in thrilling archival footage and reflective present-day interviews — is the perfect accompaniment to the exhibition and a cinematic treasure for Pogues and MacGowan fans and newcomers alike.
