This special event, exclusively for Bob Dylan Center members, will feature Academy Award–winning cinematographer, Roger Deakins. Joined by his wife and creative partner James Ellis Deakins, along with Tulsa-based filmmaker Sterlin Harjo, Roger Deakins will reflect on his remarkable career and creative process through stunning film clips and a lively conversation.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Darby Family Screening Room on the second floor of the Bob Dylan Center.
The Bob Dylan Center is pleased to present this members-only event in partnership with the Hulett Collection, presenting the related photography exhibition “Roger A. Deakins: Byways,” March 4–April 29, 2023.
Copies of the accompanying monograph “Byways” will be available for sale and signing by Roger and James at the event.

Sir Roger Deakins is one of contemporary cinema’s most honored directors of photography, renowned for his diverse and expansive body of work, technological breakthroughs and aesthetic mastery. His filmography includes “Empire of Light,” “Skyfall,” “True Grit,” “The Reader,” “Doubt,” “No Country for Old Men,” “A Beautiful Mind,” “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” and “The Big Lebowski.” Deakins has been nominated for fifteen Academy Awards, winning twice for Best Cinematography for 1917 and “Blade Runner 2049.” In 2022, Deakins was knighted by Prince Charles in recognition of his contributions to film, to date the only cinematographer to receive this honor.
In 2020, Deakins and his wife and collaborator James Ellis Deakins launched the podcast Team Deakins, featuring discussions on the world of filmmaking. Deakins also remains active as a still photographer, exhibiting works throughout the United States and Europe. “Byways” is the first published monograph of his photographs.
Sterlin Harjo is the creator of the groundbreaking television series “Reservation Dogs” and the director of feature films including “This May Be the Last Time” and “Mekko.” His works offer refreshingly unique perspectives on Native American characters, culture and experience.
