In conjunction with the opening of the new exhibition “Stepping Into the Unknown: Artifacts from the film ‘A Complete Unknown’” at the Bob Dylan Center and Woody Guthrie Center, center directors Steven Jenkins and Cady Shaw will engage in a conversation about the film with Oscar-nominated costume designer Arianne Phillips and music supervisor Steven Gizicki. Phillips and Gizicki will discuss their creative processes and the challenges and rewards of working on a period-specific production. Following the discussion, a screening of “A Complete Unknown” will be shown.
The evening will begin with an exclusive members preview of the exhibition at the centers from 5 to 6:30 p.m. CT.

ARIANNE PHILLIPS
COSTUME DESIGNER AND STYLIST

Arianne Phillips is one of the most unique creative forces in the fashion and entertainment industries. As a multi-dimensional visual artist, she brings her exemplary vision to film, fashion, theater, opera, music and media.
Known for her cutting-edge designs, Phillips’s costume design work has been recognized with four Oscar nominations, most recently in 2025 for James Mangold’s “A Complete Unknown” and previously for Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” Mangold’s “Walk the Line” and Madonna’s “W.E.” Phillips received a Tony nomination for the Broadway musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” BAFTA nominations for “A Complete Unknown,” “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” and Tom Ford’s “A Single Man” and eight Costume Designers Guild Award nominations, including an Award for Excellence in Period Film for “W.E.” Phillips was the first woman to receive the coveted Campari Passion Award at the Venice Film Festival her work on the Olivia Wilde film “Don’t Worry Darling.”
Other credits include the Broadway musical “Head Over Heels,” the Nico Mulhy opera “Marnie,” the 2023 revival of “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea” and the films “Joker: Folie à Deux,” “Nocturnal Animals,” “3:10 to Yuma,” “Knight and Day,” “One Hour Photo” and “The People vs. Larry Flynt.”
For more than two decades, Phillips worked closely with Madonna on creative projects including music videos, album covers, photo shoots, special performances and costume designs for six of her world tours.
Phillips also has designed “Costume to Collection” projects for “A Complete Unknown” (in collaboration with Levi’s) and the “Kingsman” movies (with Mr. Porter). In addition, she has worked on advertising campaigns and special projects for Tom Ford, Smashbox Cosmetics, Mac cosmetics, Dolce & Gabbana, L’Oreal, Revlon, Gucci Moschino, Valentino and David Yurman, among many more. Miuccia PRADA selected Phillips for the “Iconoclasts” project, curating installations for the brand’s flagship stores in London and Beijing, and writing, directing and producing “Passages,” a short fashion film for the brand.
Phillips continuously challenges herself by taking on projects that explore new expressions of her creativity.
STEVEN GIZICKI
MUSIC SUPERVISOR

Steven Gizicki is a two-time Grammy-winning, three-time Guild of Music Supervisors Award–winning and Emmy-nominated music supervisor. He is best known for his work on Damien Chazelle’s universally acclaimed musical feature “La La Land.” Widely considered to be a modern classic, the film scored rare double wins in both the Best Original Song and Best Original Score categories at the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes. Additionally, Gizicki was awarded a Grammy for his work on the soundtrack album as well as two prizes from the Guild of Music Supervisors.
Gizicki’s credits include several large-scale musical projects such as Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Tick, Tick…Boom!” for which he won top honors at the 2022 Guild of Music Supervisors Awards, and Jon Chu’s “In the Heights,” which marked his second number-one soundtrack album and a second Grammy nomination. Gizicki received his second Grammy award for his work on the soundtrack album for Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein biopic “Maestro.” Other credits include the Academy Award–winning stop-motion musical “Guillermo del Torro’s Pinocchio” with legendary composer Alexandre Desplat, and James Mangold’s critically acclaimed Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” which earned him another Guild Of Music Supervisors Awards nomination for Best Supervision in Mid-Budget Films and an HMMA nomination for Best Music Supervision for a Studio Feature. Current projects include Max Minghella’s futuristic thriller “Shell” and “Tuner,” the debut dramatic feature from Academy Award–winning filmmaker Daniel Roher (“Navalny”).
Gizicki led the Original Films music department at Netflix for several years, overseeing music for top-tier projects with an emphasis on musicals, awards-driven films and productions with significant on-camera music needs. Project highlights include “Don’t Look Up,” “Purple Hearts,” “Leave the World Behind” and “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.”
While known primarily for his film work, Gizicki also supervised the FX limited series “Fosse/Verdon,” for which he received an Emmy nomination. He also spent numerous years as a studio music executive overseeing music at Lucasfilm under the direction of George Lucas himself, and at Disney Animation. Gizicki began his music career as a soundtrack executive at PolyGram and a marketing executive at Virgin Records, where he worked closely with music icons David Bowie, Lenny Kravitz and Sex Pistols.
