Member Exhibit Opening – “Thin Wild Mercury: Dylan 1966”

Member Exhibit Opening - Thin Wild Mercury

Members are invited to celebrate the opening of “Thin Wild Mercury: Dylan 1966” with a spirited reception, advanced viewing and remarks from the curator at the Bob Dylan Center from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 17.

Exhibition curator Mark Davidson will provide an overview of the multimedia exhibition that transcends Dylan’s controversial “going electric” performance at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival to follow the tousle-haired, sunglasses-sporting trailblazer into the excitement and tumult of the subsequent year that would redefine not only his propulsive career but also the course of popular music itself. Davidson will walk and talk members through the exhibition — featuring previously unseen film clips on view in the Darby Family Screening Room — and demonstrate the Screen Test Machine, on loan from the Andy Warhol Museum and set up to create unique filmic portraits of gallery visitors.

Tulsa-based singer-songwriter and The Holdouts supergroup member Mark Gibson will perform a solo set in the center’s lobby during the reception, mixing mid-’60s-era covers with his own striking originals.
