Wings of Night Sky, Wings of Morning Light - a film by Joy Harjo

The Bob Dylan Center is proud to present the premiere of inaugural Artist-in-Residence and former U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo’s filmed multimedia performance, “Wings of Night Sky, Wings of Morning Light.” For this unique one-woman show, Harjo blends storytelling, poetic language, movement and music — she is an accomplished flute and saxophone player — in a ceremony that chronicles the challenges young protagonist Redbird faces on her path to healing and self-determination. Harjo’s frequent collaborator and Grammy Award–winner Larry Mitchell adds musical texture on guitar and synth.

Attendees will gather for a viewing of the film as it debuts on streaming channel Broadway On Demand. Following the 70-minute screening, Harjo – joining virtually from New Mexico – will engage in a discussion with acclaimed project director Madeline Sayet, moderated by Mohegan tribe member and theater vanguard Mary Kathryn Nagle.
